I’ve been thinking a lot about how I send out these updates. First off, I don't send them very regularly and that, folks, has to stop. I need to pick a day, one day out of the week, and send you regular updates on that day, each week.
In fact, I've been giving this whole update thing a lot of thought and I guess it would make sense to officially start up a Steeven Orr Else Media Newsletter and call it Steeven Says Stuff!
If I go that route, however, I need to decide on a newsletter platform.
Right now, I’m using both Substack and Patreon, but I’d like to simplify things and move to a single platform—probably sending updates every Monday. If I do switch, you won’t have to do anything; I’ll migrate everyone over. However, if you’d rather opt out, just let me know.
While I’m at it, I’d love your input! Beyond updates about what I’m working on, what would you like to see in a weekly newsletter? Podcast recommendations? What I’m reading? Something else? Hit reply and let me know!
Until then...
What’s Steeven Up To?
I’ve been working on a big update for Steeven Orr Else Beyond, making sure every episode of all my shows has an ad-free version for paid members. I’m also overhauling the podcast area on Patreon to make it easier for subscribers to find content.
If you listen via the Patreon app, ad-free episodes are organized into Collections, with each collection being a specific podcast.
If you use Patreon’s special RSS feed with a podcast app that supports seasons, you’ll find each show categorized accordingly.
So far, The Superman Super Show, Hither Came Conan, Growing Up Geek, and The Comic Book Show are done. All their episodes are ad-free for paid members, both on Patreon and through Apple Podcasts. And if you use Spotify, you should be able to listen there too!
On the content creation side, I’ve been working on a production schedule to keep myself on track:
Monday – The Comic Book Show
Tuesday – Growing Up Geek
Wednesday – Hither Came Conan
Thursday – Client Editing
Friday – Editing The Superman Super Show
Saturday – The Superman Super Show & Just Another Fanboy (alternating weeks)
Speaking of Just Another Fanboy, I’m thinking of shaking things up and returning to my old style—just hitting “record” and talking with no notes or prep. It could turn into an audio journal or just be a one-off experiment. First attempt is set for February 22, and I’ll be releasing new episodes every other Thursday.
Probably.
Hither Came Conan Get's an Update Section All to Itself
I wanted to announce here that, like Growing Up Geek and The Comic Book Show, I will not be releasing any new episodes of Hither Came Conan until the full season is complete... well, half the season.
In other words, each season of Hither Came Conan is 12 episodes. We are currently in Season 5 which will consists of Conan the Barbarian issues 27 through 38, though just the first six episodes are up and available to listen to (Conan the Barbarian issues 27 through 32).
I am currently hard at work on the next episode, Conan the Barbarian #33: Death and 7 Wizards, but it won't be released until it, along with the episodes covering issues 34 to 38, are recorded, edited, and in the can.
At that point, all six episodes will go up on the same day for paid members of Steeven Orr Else Beyond, early and ad-free, and then the following week, each of the six episodes will release weekly.
That's how it's going to work with Hither Came Conan for the time being, six episodes at a time, and they will go up all at once for paid members of Steeven Orr Else Beyond to binge before being released to the general public.
A New Computer? Maybe...
My current computer is ancient and it is making podcasting much harder than it should be. I’m considering launching a GoFundMe to help fund a replacement, but I haven’t decided yet.
I’ll keep you posted!
What’s Steeven Reading?
I just finished Hulk: Visionaries - Peter David Vol. 4, which collects Incredible Hulk (1968) #355-363 and material from Marvel Comics Presents #26 & #45.
From the back cover:
"The golden god-man Glorian wants to give the gray Hulk an emotional makeover, but the mysterious Mister Cloot thinks they'd both look better in demon red! Peter David's remarkable run continues as the Hulk goes after gangsters, ghouls, and the Grey Gargoyle! Plus: wrestlers, killer whales, and more! Guest-starring Iron Man and Werewolf by Night!"
I’m revisiting all the comics I read in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and I’m diving into Volume 5 this week!
What’s Steeven Listening To?
This week, I’m recommending The Flip City Podcast.
If you love deep dives into '80s and '90s nostalgia, then you need to check out The Flip City Podcast. Hosted by Wayne and Greg, this show is a love letter to the best era of pop culture—Ghostbusters, pro wrestling, Star Wars, TMNT, and everything in between. These guys don’t just skim the surface; they go all in with hilarious discussions, fantasy drafts, and memories that transport you straight back to the golden age of Saturday morning cartoons and blockbuster video runs.
Now, full disclosure—I'm lucky enough to be the editor for Flip City, but even if I weren’t, I’d still be recommending this show. Wayne and Greg have fantastic chemistry, and their enthusiasm is infectious. You can tell they’re having a blast, which makes it even more fun to listen to. And, if I can toot my own horn for a second, the show sounds great too!
Their latest episode, Episode 19, is the perfect example of what makes Flip City so fun. They’re taking a trip back to 1994 and drafting the ultimate Friday night. We’re talking about the perfect movie, the best video game, and of course, the ultimate snack and beverage lineup. It’s a battle for the ages—what would your picks be?
If you’re a fan of retro pop culture, Flip City is a must-listen. New episodes drop regularly, and you can find them on every podcast platform or at FlipCityPodcast.net. Give it a listen, and let Wayne and Greg take you on a nostalgic trip that you won’t want to end!
